The Colorado Avalanche dethroned the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in Game 6 to become the 2022 Stanley Cup Champions. As they have many times during the postseason, Colorado showed character and determination to overcome a Tampa Bay lead after the first period and post another comeback victory, this time in Amalie Arena, on the Lightning’s home ice. This was the Avs' third Stanley Cup and first since they defeated the New Jersey Devils in 2001. The team captain for the previous 1996 and 2001 Stanley Cup Championships, Joe Sakic, now serves as the team's general manager and is credited with assembling this championship team.
